Dear Host Family,
First of all, I’d like to thank you for reading this letter and spending your time getting to know me better.
Let me introduce myself. I’m Laia and I’m fourteen years old. I live in a small town,which is in the center of Catalonia not far from Barcelona.
Probably you will ask yourself why I’d like to be an exchange student. I think it’s an excellent opportunity to meet new people, get to know American culture and the way of life, improve my English and have a different and a new experience.
Firstly, I’d like to talk about myself, I’m neither tall nor short and I’m quite thin. My hair is straight, long and brown. I like wearing casual clothes but on the weekends I like to dress better. I’m a very kind and energetic girl. However, when I meet a new person I can be shy at first. I’m a very tidy girl, I always keep my room very clean.
I live with my parents, my older sister and my dog. My parents bought him in 2020. My mum’s Mireia and works as a dentist, and she has her own dentist. My dad’s Lluis and works as a fireplace installer and he has his own business too. My sister Claudia is 16 and she is studying the last year before university. My grandmother makes our lunch every Tuesday. On the weekend my parents, my sister and I do a lot of different activities. Every summer we travel abroad to see new places. We love traveling together.
Currently I’m in 9th grade. From Monday to Wednesday I start at 8:30 and finish at 5 o’clock pm, and on Thursdays and Fridays I start at 8:30 and finish at 2:30 pm. In my high school there is a canteen but how I live next door I go home for lunch every day. My after school activities are English, volleyball, going to the gym, and skiing in the winter. I did gymnastics for 10 years until I quit last year, but I still really enjoy it. I play volleyball matches every weekend in the Catalan league And I would be very happy if I could be part of a volleyball team. In total I spend lots of hours doing sport activities. Volleyball is my favorite activity of all and I take two classes a week and a match every weekend. Finally I have ski lessons every winter from December to March with a club.
My hobbies are listening to music, traveling, doing sports, and fashion. I love going shopping with my mother, my sister and my friends. I also love being around animals all the time, especially dogs. In the future I would like to become a volunteer of an animal shelter to help animals. I love going to the cinema to watch scary movies.
I like all the holidays but the best one for me is Christmas. I love the snow, decorating my house and being with my family. Finally, I like hanging out with my friends. I think I’ll miss my life in Berga but I’m sure that the experience of spending a year abroad will be worth it. I’m very excited about my trip to the USA and meeting my future host family. I hope that I’ll be able to show you something about my country and I’m very happy to think that I’m going to be one of your family members. I’m looking forward to meeting you and I’m really thankful that you consider hosting me for this year.
