Dear my host family,
Hello! Before introducing myself, I really give thanks to you serving exchange student program. I’m Haerang and I’m from South Korea. I’m a student who is third grade of middle school, which is the same as sophomore in US high school.
I live with my parents and one sister, and brothers who are twin. My family are active and have a lot of laughter. We talk each other while we have dinner. During the weekend, after church, we take a walk together. My father is a company employee. He gives me advice in social life and my life. My father is like old friend. My mother is a director of kindergarten. She always hears what I am thinking and helps me make a decision. When I talk with her, I tidy up my mind. My older sister is my role model. I take encouragement from her who took steps toward her plans and accomplish them for her life. My sister is very cool. My younger twin brothers are in an elementary school as first grader. They are full of fun and mischief but I am surprised that they speak like a grown-up. I study what they wonder with them and let them know about it. We spend have a good time. I love watching them be happy.
I am sometimes calm and other times active. I consider and do my best to take balance between these two aspects. I have played the piano since I was 8 years old. Now, I learned an organ by a university professor and play the piano and organ when the people sing a song in church. I like to play not only classic but also calm jazz ballad which is arranged by me. Also I like to debate social problems. I want to learn fine arts like drawing and painting which can express my thinking freely.
I went to trip to USA, China and Vietnam, Philippines. But what I like most was a trip to Gangwon province with my family. Braised cutlassfish of native local food in Korea and watching sunrise of winter in the car was impressive to me.
I am third grade of middle school student. I go to school which is near my house. I study with friends and teachers who are very good to us. I used be class president and ethics class president, art class president in my school. I take part in the school sports game and I do my best enough to be given Model Student Prize. I like Korean class and math class, but I prefer Korean History class to them. Especially I like modern and contemporary history. I have joined the Alliance for Hangeul Culture (Korean Language Culture Alliance) and coloring book club and I play golf and badminton for school sport. I am down with school friends, but my best friend are D and S. We encourage and rely on each other. This is my happy school life!
Actually most of the students in Korea don’t know what they really want. So they study and study then they launch into the world without knowing what they really want. So I want to experience USA education which emphasizes debate and presentation which require autonomy and creativity. So I apply for exchange student because I want to plan my future with various experiences.
Expectations from this program are higher self-responsibility and originality. Also I look forward to seeing the host and future friends. I expect the host to spent a lot of family time doing sports like jogging and badminton and talking, and watching movies! I can’t wait for taking politics and sociology classes and I want to join the school club and do sports in school. I want to introduce the Korean books, “Two Generation’s Sufferings” and “Red Mountain” which are my impressive books in order to share Korean culture and history.
Thank you very much for reading the long letter by this time and serving exchange student’s host. I will do my best to be the good student and good family. Thank you very much!
