ICES Awards 2018

ICES Awards 2018

The ICES 2018 Awards were announced at the National Training Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Hero of the Year Award”

We offer hearty congratulations to the ICES 2018 “Hero of the Year Award” recipients – Judy Scott (National Placement Director) and Kari Owens (National Training Director).

This is the first year that there have been two recipients for this award, which is given for a job well done by individuals on the national or field staff who go the extra mile to focus on the safety and well being of our exchange students and to enhance the overall quality of the ICES exchange program.

Judy Scott has developed our strongest field staff ever, which acts a single unified and focused team to place our exchange students with strong host families in a timely fashion. Judy, along with Rose McDonough and Jennifer Jennings and the entire field staff, have enabled ICES to complete the placement of all J-1 students in August 2017 and January 2018 well in advance of U.S. Department of State requirements.

Kari Owens has developed a stellar training program, which has greatly enhanced New LC training in the interest of fully protecting the safety and well being of our exchange students.

“Merit Award”

We also offer congratulations to the ICES 2018 “Merit Award” recipients – Arlette Haupt (Local Coordinator), Hannah Doyle (Regional Director), Sarah Duncan (Regional Director), Kari Hampton (Regional Director) and Kim Shreve (Regional Director).

Arlette Haupt is recognized for her 35-plus years of service in youth exchange. Arlette is retiring from ICES but during her many years of service, Arlette and her husband have hosted 48 high school exchange students!

Hannah Doyle and Sarah Duncan are honored for their focus on the safety and well being of our exchange students during Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Hurricane Irma in Florida in 2017. Kari Hampton is honored for her focus on the safety and well being of our exchange students during the 2017 Oregon wildfires.

Kim Shreve is recognized for her focus on excellence with regard to exchange students, host families and high schools. Over the past decade, Kim has consistently scored the highest ratings from students, host families and high schools in the ICES semester surveys. Kim’s communication with students, host families and high schools and her focus on enriching the exchange experience of students in her region have set a very high standard for all ICES staff.
