LETTER FROM Josephine

Josephine

Hello to my future host family,
in this letter, I would like to introduce myself, what makes me special and what I like to do. Also I am writing to express my excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to become a part of your family through the exchange program.
My name is Josephine, I am currently 15 years old and will be 16 in mid- September. I live with my mother and my older brother in a suburb here in Germany. Here I am currently attending the tenth grade of a grammar school. My favorite subjects are sports, English and science. Unfortunately, math is not my strong point at all.
I like to get involved in my school and have been a member of the so-called smv (students with administration) for several years. We organize the Christmas market, Valentine’s Day and St. Nicholas Day at school, for example. This year we are probably even organizing a real school dance for the first time, which unfortunately we don’t have every year like in America.
Every year, my school also organizes a day where donations are collected, each class has its own stand where individual programs are offered.
In my free time, I like to hang out with friends, go shopping in the city or do sports. I play volleyball in a club, I ski in winter and I also like to go surfing on vacation.
And besides school, I once a week work with kids. I and also model a little. And get some money from both of them. I also earn some extra money with apps like Vinted, and it’s also a lot of fun. I also sometimes resell articles.
I’m also very interested in stocks and trademarks, but I have less experience there, but I’m just getting started. I also love cooking and trying out new recipes.
In general, I would describe myself as an extroverted and open person who likes to try new things and loves new experiences.
Meeting new people or approaching them on my own is not particularly difficult for me. I had my very first school exchange to France in the 8th grade at the age of 13. It was only 10 days, but I still think back to it with great fondness and still have contact with people I met back then.
I’m hoping for exactly the same thing from my year abroad in the USA, an unforgettable time with memories, new friendships but also challenges with which you can grow. My childhood dream has always been to go to the USA for a year. And to actually experience everyday life at a real American high school.
What fascinates me most about it is the school spirit that you have. I’m also really looking forward to getting to know a new culture and experiencing a different everyday life than here in Germany. What I hope to gain from my year abroad.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and if you do become my host family, I would like to thank you in advance for the opportunity to make my year abroad possible.
I can’t wait to get to know you!
Josephine
