LETTER FROM Laura

Laura

Hello!

First of all I want to thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my family and tell you how grateful I am that you’re letting an exchange student enjoy this incredible opportunity.

My name is Laura and in a few months I’ll be able to finally say that I’m an exchange student. This was something that I’ve been dreaming of since I was 12 years old and I feel really proud to have accomplished my dream. However, I couldn’t have possibly made it if it wasn’t because of my family. My mom is my biggest supporter, and although it might be difficult for her to accept the fact that I’ll be travelling so far, she’s been incredibly understanding and has only encouraged me to keep up. My parents are called Miguel and Mariló and they got divorced a long time ago, this wasn’t that hard to process, especially since I have three older sisters who were always supporting me. Isabel, or Isa, is 26 years old which makes her the oldest. We are always watching TV shows together and sharing many dumb thoughts. Cristina or Cristi, is 24 years old and she’s the only one who has moved out. She’s currently living in Barcelona and works in a nursing home. She’s one of the sweetest people I know and I guess that’s the reason as to why all of the elderly people love her. Paola is 21 and she always makes me feel safe and never judges me whenever I tell her something that worries me. Although we sometimes fight we spend most of the time laughing together and having a good time.

I believe that being the youngest person most of the time has made me become more mature and independent. I consider myself as a perfectionist and a hardworking person, that’s why I rarely give up. Nonetheless, this has led me to compare myself with others and not feel satisfied and happy with my work on many occasions. This is something I’ve been working on for a long time and nowadays I try to focus on myself and appreciate all of the things that I’ve achieved with my hard work.

Since I was very little I remember singing pop songs in my mom’s car, from Britney Spears to David Bisbal. I believe this is what made me so passionate about music, and the reason as to why I started playing the piano when I was 6 years old and I still do. I would love to learn how to play other instruments such as the flute, guitar… Besides performing music I also enjoy going to concerts no matter if the music performed is classical, rock or reggaeton. Another of my hobbies is volleyball, this is something that I’ve started practicing only a few months ago but I feel really excited about improving and competing against other teams. I also love travelling and I would say this is one of the things that made me realise my urge to learn about different cultures, people, traditions…

I’m really excited to go on my exchange year as I feel that it would help me to be even more open minded and experience new things. I can’t wait to meet you and start this new adventure!!!

Thank you for reading my letter!
