LETTER FROM Lea

Lea

Dear future host family,

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my letter! I would also like to thank you in advance for taking me in for 10 months and allowing me to be part of your family!

As we don’t know each other yet, I will try to describe myself as best as I can in this letter.

My name is Lea and I am 16 years old. Since my birthday is in November, we will be able to celebrate my 17th birthday together. I live in a small town. My parents live separately, which is why I alternate between living with my father for a week and my mother for a week. My father lives in a house with a garden and my mother lives in an apartment with a balcony. I also have a younger brother and a cat. I get on well with all of them and really enjoy spending time with them. For example, we often go for walks together, cook or bake something, play games, go shopping or go on vacation together. Since I was two years old, we have spent our summer vacation on an island in the Baltic Sea in northern Germany. During the other vacations, we like to fly away. For example to relax on the beach, or to get to know new cultures. My favorite tradition is Christmas, because that’s when the whole family gets together and we eat kale with potatoes and sausages. Then we open the presents. Another tradition that I really enjoy is that we always eat dinner together. We would talk about the whole day during this time.

If I had to describe my parents, I would say that they are nice, funny, respectful and organized. They also always have advice for me when I need help. They work hard to make many things possible for my brother and me, such as this trip to you.

I would describe myself as an organized, creative, ambitious and fun person. However, I would also say that I am not particularly patient. Things I like to do in my free time are reading, baking, cooking, listening to music, skating, skiing (beginner), and spending time with friends. We often go shopping together, organize sleepover parties or do something in Hamburg. I also go horse riding three times a week because I enjoy it so much! Once I’m there, I can’t concentrate on anything else.

I also have a mini-job. Every Saturday morning I go to work for six hours in a hotel, where I serve the guests at breakfast. I enjoy participating in conversations with the guests.

I am currently in the 10th grade of a grammar school. My favorite subjects are English, math and biology. I prefer these subjects over chemistry and French.

During my exchange-year, i would like to join a sports team in the USA. I also hope to improve my English, learn about the culture, make friends for life and find a second home for the duration of my stay.

I would be very happy to meet your family!

Best wishes,

Lea
