LETTER FROM Lisa

Lisa

Dear host family,
First off all I want to thank you for your interests in becoming a host family! My name is Lisa and I’m 15 years old, I live in Germany in a village near a big town. Me and my family live in a house close to the center of our village.
My family consists out of my parents Bernd and Annette, my big sister Eva (18 years old), my little sister Anna (11 years old) and me. I like spending time with my family but unfortunately, we don’t do that very often because of work and school, but we eat at least one meal a day together. My family and I are travelling a lot, last summer for example we were in Canada for a month. When we are on vacation, we visit city’s, go hiking (don’t like that a lot) or just relax and go to the beach when there is one. I think I have the best relationship with my little sister Anna, she has ADD, I always know when she’s not okay, why she is and know how to help her or make her feel more comfortable. We spend much time together in different ways. Sometimes we go to the city, do DIY’s together, draw, watching films, bake, cook, sometimes I help her with her homework and, what is really kind of her, that she sometimes helps me with cleaning my room and I help her with her room. But obviously we are also argue but, I guess it’s normal between siblings. At home we share the tasks, I help in different ways like bringing the garbage out, hanging up clothes and folding them after, going to the supermarket and more. But my mum and my dad still do the most of the household. I clean my room by myself, it’s not always clean but when we go on vacation or when guests are coming over, I always clean it. Unfortunately, we don’t have any pets, but I would like to have one. I like dogs and cats the most. What I really don’t like are spiders, snakes or any other insects. Nobody in my family smokes, I find that really good. I don’t like to argue and when there is a argue in my family then I usually stay out of it. In my free time I do a lot with friends we also bake together, go to the movies, have a sleepover, go to the city shopping, and much more. I really love spending time with them. They ‘re also the reason why I like school, because I see my friends, but sometimes school can be really hard especially when we have much exams, homework or bad teachers. Every morning I go to school with one of my best friends. We walk to bus station together and then we take the bus to our school. We both go in the same class what is really nice. We go in the 9th grade in high school. Our class is an art class, that means that we have art as a main subject and more lessons than the other classes in our grade. My favorite subjects are art, chemistry, and politics. What I really don’t like is math. So now to come back to what I do in my free time: I like baking but unfortunately, I don’t do it as much as I used to do it. I also like cooking. (maybe if you would like to, we could cook something together, maybe something German). Like I already said I like spending time with my friends, I also draw a lot. I’m not in a sports team but I do workouts at home often and would like to learn dancing. I also would like to try volleyball or cheerleading in the USA if it’s possible. When you go into my room the first thing you will see is my big teddy, I named him Günter (he is bigger than me) you will also see Harry Styles, I have a few pictures of him on my wall. I like his music very much but mostly I like him as a person and how he treats his fans and cares about people. Last summer I was with my family on a concert of him, it was really nice. I think one of my strengths is that I recognize very fast when people feel not well, or generally how they feel, I’m a good listener, but also love talking with people. I like laughing and do that a lot when I feel comfortable. I like it when people are treated right and with respect.
So, and now lastly: How did I came up with the idea for doing a year abroad?
I came up with the idea of doing an exchange year last summer. But then I lost sight of the idea, but it came back and that was the point when I knew if I don’t do it, I will regret it. Right from the start it was clear for me that I want to spend my year abroad in the USA, I love the country and the people. I want to life the typical high school life and want to get to know new people, see new places and get to know the American culture and bring a bit German to America!
I ‘m really seeing forward to this year and what I will experience.
Thank you for reading this text, I hope you now know me bit better!
Best wishes
-Lisa
