Hi, I’m Marina, I’m a sporty person. I’m a little bit shy but when I get to know you I’m very open.
I was born in a big city, but when I was four, we moved to a little town close to the sea. We live in a quiet area, near the sea and the mountains, downtown is near, I can go walking or by bus when me and my friends want to meet.
The weather is mild in winter and hot during summer, but we go to the beach when it’s too hot.
I live with my parents and my brother in an attached house with a common garden and pool. My father is a telecommunications engineer, my mother is a massage therapist and my brother is a student. In my house we eat a mediterranean diet, I love fruit and vegetables, but also pasta, fish and cookies. In my house the best cook is my father, he makes delicious meals. My mom also cooks very well, and I sometimes make big salads.
I also help with the house chores, like laundry or cleaning the kitchen.
We spend a lot of time together. My father, my brother and I like watching NBA, soccer or going to our local basketball team matches. With my mother I sometimes go to a dog shelter on Sundays. We also enjoy shopping together. On weekdays I don’t have a lot of free time because I have basketball training 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), and take guitar and English lessons (mainly to improve my speaking). Once a week I go to a yoga class with my mother and my brother. That’s why only I spend time with my friends during the weekends or holidays, but we have a very good time when get together.
Besides basketball, I have many other hobbies: since I was very little girl I love reading. I also like water sports, like surf or windsurf, I’m not very good but I try. I spend a lot time listening to music, my favorites singer are Pablo Alboran, Ed Sheeran and Adam Levine, who is the singer of the group Maroon 5.
In High School, my favorite subjects are those related to sciences, as I want to be a veterinarian. I’d like to ride and work with horses.
In fact, when I grow up I’d like to live in the United States, because there is horse races are much more popular there than in my country.
I have had very good vacations experiences as we used to make home exchange. That is a system where you introduce your house in a website with other thousands of houses all over the world. You also say the dates you want to travel and the places you would like to go. So you agree with another family and each family spends the vacation at the other family’s house. It’s fantastic! My mother has been working last three summers so we couldn’t do it, I really miss it.
We have been in London, where we stayed for two weeks this way. In the mornings I went to a summer camp with my brother and in the evenings I went with my parents to visit the city, I had a very good time. The next year I went to Ireland with my family too. I also stayed in a summer camp but this one was a little bit different because it was about music. In the afternoons we did a lot of interesting things: we visited Dublin, we attended to horse races, and helped our neighbours that bred greyhounds. The puppies were really cute. We also went to Rome a couple of years ago: we rented an apartment really close to the Vatican. We all loved the city.
We don’t travel during Christmas because we spend it with the family, we go first to my aunt’s for Christmas Eve dinner. For New Year’s Eve we usually meet at my grandparents’. I like when we exchange presents with my family and my little cousins, they are 3 years old and I love them, they are so funny.
Finally, I feel very excited about this opportunity to spend a year in the USA. I confess that I’m a little nervous too because I will not see my family or friends for a whole year but I am sure I will meet very nice people learn a lot of a great country and learn more about myself. And of course improve my English!
Thank you for making this possible, I hope we meet soon.
