LETTER FROM Roberta

Roberta

Hi! I´m Roberta, but most of my friends call me by my nickname “Ro”. I live with my parents, my brother Rafael who is 20 years old and my dog “Stark” named after Iron-man. My father has 2 other children from his previous marriage that don’t live with us, but I consider them my brothers just as much as Rafael. Junior is my oldest brother who is 46 years old and has 2 daughters Maria Catarina and Helena. Ricardo, my other brother who is also my godfather is 42, and he has 2 children as well, Arthur and Sofia.

We really enjoy spending time together, whether it’s at home or outdoors. Considering all of my family, I would say I’m closest to three people: my mom, who is always by my side; my brother Rafael, and my older niece Helena, who’s almost my age so we get along really well. One of the things we do the most as a family is trying out different restaurants. As we live in a big city, there is a huge variety of places to explore, which we love doing.

In terms of my personality, I would say I’m extroverted because I make friends quite easily, although I prefer to stay in my friend groups. One of my strengths is the care I have for the people I love. I would say I am a sensible person, so I know when people around me aren’t that good, consequently I try to cheer them up, either with deep talks or with some jokes to make them laugh. And I wouldn’t call it a strength, but for sure one of my main personality traits is making jokes and finding humor in everyday moments. I’d say my weakness is being so hard with myself, mostly on school related stuff. When things don’t meet up with my expectations, I tend to get a bit anxious, so in those days I will probably be quieter, as I don’t open up to others that much.

When it comes to interests, I have a huge variety of activities that I enjoy. On weekends, usually Fridays and Saturdays, I hang out with my friends. We either go to restaurants, malls or parties or we stay in and have sleepovers, in those days we watch movies, play board or video games and cook something. On Sundays, I tend to spend the day with my family.

One of my main interests is self care. I absolutely love getting ready (sometimes even more than going out); I love choosing my outfit, doing my makeup, hair, every step, even more if I am with my friends. Another passion of mine is football, my whole family cheers for the same team (Palmeiras), so I have always been a supporter, but in the last few years I truly became a fan! I watch every match and whenever possible I go to the stadium.

Referring to physical activity, I have been going to the gym 2 or 3 times a week for a year now. We have a country house near São Paulo and when I’m there I play badminton, table tennis and football with my friends and nephews, but all of it for fun! I really enjoy the days we spend there (usually holidays) because I can get my mind away and relax.

In terms of traditions, I would say being together on special dates, so every birthday, Mother/Father’s Day, Christmas, Easter, the whole family reunite and celebrate together. On vacation we usually travel, which is another activity that I love! Getting to know different places and cultures really fascinates me, one of the reasons I think this exchange will be great. I think one of the greatest ways of getting to know a culture is with their cuisine. Although I have my preferences and prefer simpler food, I don’t have a problem with eating.

From the exchange experience, I hope to gain more knowledge in every way. What I am most excited about is immersing in a whole different environment, really getting out of my comfort zone and expanding my horizons. I expect to make good memories and long lasting friendships.

Thank you for considering me as a part of your family during this exchange program. I look forward to this experience!
