LETTER FROM Paloma

Paloma

Hello dear host family,
I’m Paloma, and in this letter I want to talk to you about myself.
I want to thank you for reading my letter, I am very excited about my exchange student program. One of my goals in life has always been to go to the US to study for a year and I’m looking forward to it. I’m very grateful to have this opportunity.
Here in Spain I live with my parents, Juncal and Darío, and my sister Lucía, who is 13 years old. I get along very well with them and we love doing things together like traveling, cooking…
I think I am an active, outgoing, fun, responsible and friendly girl. But sometimes I am impatient or a little lazy and sleepy. I love getting to know places, people, cultures and new things. I could bring things from Spanish culture to your family like our food or traditions. And also a girl who really wants to know your way of life!
When I have problems I try to look for help, I also like to talk about them with someone, usually I do it with my sister because we have a lot of trust.
I would also like to tell you that I am a girl who loves to travel, I have gone to foreign countries like France, Holland, Portugal, Hungary…
I have always loved English and in primary school there was a contest called Spelling Bee, to spell words in English, I was very good at it and always reached the last phases, I was even the winner at my school once; and I competed against children from all the schools in Spain! When I’m there I will show you the videos! I also applied to a casting for the most popular cooking show here in Spain, called MasterChef Junior. I passed the first casting; in the second one I cooked a Greek dish that my father taught me and that I love, the Saganaki, which has tomato, feta cheese, carabineros (a type of seafood)… And even though I didn’t pass that casting, I will be able to cook it for you!
I love spending time with my friends and in my free time I usually watch series, listen to music, cook, make plans with my friends, go to concerts… My favorite sports are volleyball, I played it for three years, and skiing; I currently do swimming. In my exchange student program I would like to play volleyball again or be a cheerleader. I love all kinds of animals and I would love to have a pet because I have only had fish. I am a girl who likes almost all types of food.
A dream for me it’s to spend all the holidays and celebrations like Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Prom… In the United States.
When I am in the US I may miss Spain at first but I want to integrate well and I know that for that I cannot always be aware of everything that happens in Spain because I will not be in either place as I should. That’s why I think it’s okay to talk to my family and friends once a week. And obviously I would help with all the household tasks!
I would love to have a good relationship with my host family and I hope that years after my student exchange program we can see us again and they can come visit me and my Spanish family.
Thank you very much for reading my letter and I hope to be part of your family and to be able to contribute things to you and help you in any way I can!
