LETTER FROM Emily

Emily

Dear host family,

My name is Emily and I’m an aspiring exchange student. I’ve always dreamt of visiting the world, exploiting the languages I’ve learned, and visiting new cultures and lifestyles. English has always been one of my strengths, ever since I was a kid, as well as other languages and especially humanitarian subjects, such as history and philosophy. On the other side, I shall admit I’m the worst in mathematical subjects, numbers aren’t quite my thing, I’m also not a huge fan of physical activity, as a matter of fact I practice archery, which doesn’t require much movement.

Even though I may not be a brainiac, I try my best in every subject, I am well-aware of my limits but I push myself over them every time to improve and if I fall I don’t cry over spilled milk, instead I focus on my mistakes and try to do better next time. I think my friends would describe me as funny, mature and caring, not afraid to face difficulties, witty, always ready to take a challenge, even if I tend to be a bit anxious and prone to overthinking.

Sports have created a bond between me and my family; me and my mom do archery in the woods and compete against each other, while my dad, my older brother and me watch Formula one each Grand Prix and comment it together.

Another important part of my life is music, I love listening to it and for a short period I tried to learn how to play piano. I’ve been to multiple concerts: Harry Styles’, Louis Tomlinson’s and Taylor Swift’s, she is one of my biggest inspirations and I find comfort and peace in her songs. Music really helps me calming down my worries, as I can relate to some of their experiences.

A strong family tradition is on Sunday, usually while watching the races, my father cooks dinner, he never does it during the week because of work, so when we’re on holiday or on the weekend and he has the chance, he makes us his specialties, such as pizza, tortelli, pisarei e fasò, bruschette, piadine, sandwiches, and much more. While watching him cook, I learned some recipes, but I’m not nowhere as good as him.

Another important part of my life is “Ecoafternoon”, a project I created alongside some of my classmates. It revolves around the cleaning of the streets of the city where we go to school; we got interviewed for it and we collaborated with our mayor to improve its decoration and that area in general, to favor the mobility of our city.

From this experience I not only wish to improve my English skills, but I wish to become more independent, get out of my comfort zone and the bubble of the small city I live in. I wish to learn from other people experiences, I wish to discover and learn from strangers the differences and similarities from someone who has a completely different background.

Thank you for reading through my presentation and taking into consideration the possibility to welcome me in your home. I truly appreciate it!

Cannot wait to meet you.

Best regards,
Emily
