LETTER FROM Juan Domingo

Juan Domingo

Dear all,

It is only one year left for me to live a life-changing experience in the USA, and I’m very excited. I’m Juan Domingo, and at first sight, I seem to be a normal teenager, but I love doing plenty of things.

About the program, I would love to participate in it to learn things outside my comfort zone, living things I usually do not and to meet new people. I consider myself flexible and outgoing. Meeting new people is what I personally value the most, having more people in my life.

My family is charming and kind. My father is serious, but when you get to know him well, he can be the funniest person you can ever meet, and he is pretty generous. My mother is always smiling and lovely; she does lots of favors and always tries to help people in any way. My older sister, 19 years old, is quite reserved and private, but she takes after my father and is an interesting person when you really know her. Lastly, my younger sister is very playful and cute, although she is 6 years old and still has to grow. I cannot imagine how she is going to be in the future! I love spending time with them by doing some activities such as travelling, going to the cinema, playing board games or just eating together. What I appreciate most about my family is that, despite my stubborn personality, they always want the best for me and look forward to making me a better person. We live in a relaxing and quiet environment as our neighborhood is located in the suburbs. I do not belong to any volunteer activity, but I would not mind doing some. In school, I am very interested in learning, especially in maths, science, and physics. Other subjects I do not have yet but would love to pursue are technical drawing, programming, and others related to numbers, as I aspire to do informatics or electronics engineering in the future.

As hobbies, I mainly read non-fictional books, such as psychology or philosophy, and go out for a walk through nature, whether near my house or hiking in mountains. I also like hanging out with people, writing, exploring science, traveling, playing the piano (which I took up recently), and more. I would also like to learn about photography, surfing, and baking. Regarding sports, I currently play volleyball and believe I am very good at it. I also like bike riding and basketball, which I played when I was younger. Another sport that seems interesting to me and I have never tried is squash. I read a few things about it, and it is very similar to a game I played with my friends at school, so I’d add squash to the list of sports I like. I manage to have a daily to-do list, which includes reading 20 pages, searching for something new, journaling at the end of the day, etc. I believe it helps me be productive.

This program will allow me to learn about the culture and people there and also to share my Spanish culture, including traditions, foods, celebrations. Besides this, the program is the best opportunity to prepare myself for the future and to enjoy things I would not have done in my native country. For example, it’s very probable that I’m not going to live with my parents in a few years, so this year would be the best chance to become more independent and secure.

To the person who is reading this, thanks for your time and your appreciation of this letter. I am eager and grateful for the upcoming experiences that lie ahead, and I hope that this glimpse into my life has given you a better understanding of who I am. As I have just said, thank you.

Juan,
