LETTER FROM Chi

Chi

Dear host family,

My name is Chi and I am 15 years old. Currently, I am studying in grade 11 at High School. At school, I like to study English and History. Besides, I am interested in learning other cultures, I realize that the Exchange Student Program is very suitable for me to learn more about U.S culture, especially to improve my English and my independence.

First of all, I would like to introduce my family. There are 6 members in my family, and we live happily together: my father, my mother, my elder sister, my two brothers and me. My father is Nghia and my mother is My. Both of them are very successful business persons. My father is a dedicated man to the family, and my mother is such a great housewife. My sister graduated from University of Cincinnati and is now living in The US. She is very good at English so that she can help me whenever I have troubles with my English exercises. And she is also a person who gives me lots of helpful advice and helps me realizing many things in life. My older brother was a UC graduate too. He chose to come back to Vietnam after completing his Master degree there, and is now a business man. He is remarkable at Math and Physics that he helps me to solve the calculations. He is also the breadwinner along with my dad to help our family. Additionally he has much knowledge about many things; therefore, he has given me so much useful information about technology and computer and taught me some soft skills. My elder brother is studying at University of Cincinnati too. His name is Loc. He is mature and he is so cool.  What is more, both my two brothers used to be exchange students. And they both had great experiences during their culture exchange year. So being the youngest of the family, I am shared lots of experience from my two brothers and inspired by my brothers about becoming successful. So I have tried all my best to be as well as them. Additionally, I have been affected by my brothers about the kindness, and this make me want to become a good person.

Secondly, I would like to tell you about my study. I am studying at a boarding school. I have quite a tight schedule but if I try, I can adapt without any difficulty. I go to school from Monday to Saturday. On school days, I have to get up at about 5:30 to do exercise. Then I have a small breakfast with a glass of milk before attending classes from 7:15 till 10:45 sometimes 11:30. After that, I return to my dormitory, have lunch and take a nap for about 45 minutes. Then I start my afternoon classes. After class, I usually play sports with my friends or take a walk around the town. My favorite sports is football and badminton.  In the evening, I revise my lessons as well as prepare presentations or tests in the following days. At weekends, I sometimes hang out with my friends or come back with my family to enjoy a peaceful and warm atmosphere in order to relax after a busy week. To be an exchange student, I am looking forward to having a host family who can accept me as a son. I am a very friendly boy and get along with everyone, I am thankful for that because I can get familiar with new environment, new people, and new culture very quickly and very well. Living with a new host family helps me how to be independent and mature. I can also learn the American culture, and understand the ways of thinking of an American, which can make me open my horizon and have a new view of life. Besides, I can also share my opinion about Vietnam. It is a place where you can find many special cultures such as wearing ao dai, Tet, Vietnamese coffee and sticky rice, etc. Would you like to try all of them? There are so many specialties of Vietnam that I must spend hours talking to you. To my mind, I myself study in the USA as an exchange student, so my best aim is to share my country’s cultures with you and learn your cultures. Especially, you will know clearly about Vietnam because you have a chance to find out about Vietnamese teenagers as well as Vietnamese people. I would like to thank you for your time reading my letter. It will be great if I can become a new member of your family in 2024. I hope that we can enjoy our time together!

Kindest regards.

Chi
