Dear future host family 🙂

Hello, I´m Mathys, 16 years old and from a village near Hamburg. Hamburg is a city in the northern part of Germany. In addition, it´s well known for it´s harbour and fish market in middle of the city because of the river “Elbe” which goes through Hamburg. My village on the opposite is a very little place but we have everything what we need. There I live with my family: my father, mother, little brother and my grandfather.

My father Kay and my mother Antonia are both physicians but they work in different hospitals in Hamburg. At home I often spend time with my brother, his name is Thilo and 11 years old. He goes to the 5th grade at the same school like me. I´m in 10 th grade and like subjects like mathematics and history because I´m interested in solving problems and learning about the past. Additionally, I have my friends there that makes it even nicer. With them I spend always time in the breaks by playing mobile games. Mostly we also hang out after school and doing some homework or going to restaurant and eating together. When I come home I warm up the lunch for my brother and me and go for walk with our dog Niko. We also have cute cat named Luna, she can be sometimes arrogant. After that I do my homework and spend also time with my brother playing some games.

In my freetime I play a lot of soccer in a soccer club. I play this sport since I`m 5. My position is in the defense as left defender. Sometimes I also play as left midfilder but it depends on the taktik of our coach. A few friends also play for this club. We train actually three times the week and start always with a warm up. While the warm up we talk about funny things that happend at school. After the warm up we do some excercises to train our endurance and with the ball on the pitch.Another sport I play is tennis. I play it one hour time perweek. Other things I do in my freetime is to go jogging, playing chess, cooking something and hearing music. My taste of music is a mix of maybe everything. I like to hear music of artists like: One Republic, Nicky Jam, Eminem, Farruko, Mark Forster, Robin Schulz. When I spend time with my friends, we usually hear german rap songs.

A thing which I like the most is when my family and I play table games, video games on the nintendo switch and watch a movie or serie on tv together. Unfortunately everyone of us has different taste of movie or series. That´s why we always need a bit of time to come to an agreement. I´m usually open to every movie but I´m not the fan of horror movies.

I´m open minded and curious so I like to visit other countrys and get to know more about different cultures. When I was younger my family and I lived in Ecuador for four years, because my grandmother was Ecuadorian. Therefore I have some experience living abroad and I really enjoy being in different surroundings. That´s why I decided to participate in this exchange year program in the United states. Why the United states? Because it´s a state of multi cultures, with a nice landscape and interesting history. I also want to make new friends and of course improve my english knowledge.
