LETTER FROM Patrick

Patrick

Hello host family!
My name is Patrick, and I am fourteen years old (I will be 15 next October).
I live in Barcelona, Spain with my parents and my little cocker dog Bella. I have no siblings, I’m an only child. That has its advantages and disadvantages, although I consider myself a very lucky person. We live in a nice house in a small village on the seaside. The village is around 35 kilometers from Barcelona city, and has only 6.70K inhabitants. It’s a beautiful place. We have the sea and mountains in the same place. Many people come here to spend their summer holidays.

My Family
My father is 50% Spanish and 50% Danish, because my grandmother comes from Denmark. Denmark is a small country located in Northern Europe, close to Sweden.
He spent a year in USA when he was 19. He lived in a small village called Charleston South Carolina and he enjoyed this experience a lot.
He is my best friend; he was my playmate throughout my childhood. He loved to take me to all kinds of places so I could have fun, jumping, skating, and any child activities. He has always been a very kind and loving dad.
He has a small company selling reflective materials for roads and highways. Clothing and all kinds of reflective materials.
He speaks English and Danish and uses to travel around countries because of his job.
My mother is 100% Spanish. I have a very close relationship with her. She is always there when I need some advice and support.
She is a very active person. She practices Pilates and walks every day to keep fit.
She loves different cultures and languages. She also traveled to Ireland to study English and she lived in France for a year.
She speaks English & French.
My mother works for a multinational company.
My parents have taught me the importance of living abroad for a while to enrich myself with all that it means. Total immersion in another culture, other customs, another language.
My grandparents, a Spanish man with his Danish wife lived in South Africa until they finally were established in Barcelona, so they also love different cultures and languages.
I’ve grown up hearing around me how people spoke different languages and I want to be like them.

About me
I consider myself an outgoing and sociable person, I am open to other people and cultures.
I am very familiar, I love spending time with my grandparents, uncles, cousins, etc.
I’m quite mature and independent for my age. I think I know how to manage things without panicking.

My Formation

I’ve been studying for 11years at the same school, and I’m going to do also high school here before going to the university.
I am studying 3º ESO (9 grade in USA). I am quite a good student. I study very hard, so I pass all the subjects without any problem.
I still don’t know what career I’m going to do but probably I’ll do Business Administration.

Sports

I play tennis. I currently take tennis lessons two days a week after school. I’ve been playing tennis since I was little, although I also played on a soccer team for a few years. I’m open to practice any other sport in EUA.

My hobbies

In my free time I love watching movies, spending time with my school mates and family, I love arts in general, I love drawing and painting.

What I hope to gain from this experience

With this experience I hope learning about American culture, expand my vision of the world, meeting people and learning to speak English to be able to communicate with the people in the area.

Looking forward meeting you soon!
