LETTER FROM Ceren

Ceren

Hello there,

First of all I would like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Ceren and I am a fifteen year old ninth grader. Usually like most teenagers I like to spend my time by going out with friends, watching movies, and handing out with my family. Just as I said I love meeting up and hanging out with my friends very much. I am not much of a loner. I feel really good when I am around my friends. We usually meet up at someone’s house, go to a cafe or basically sit in a park. And I love to meet new people and make new memories with them.

For my interests, I have been doing ballet for as long as I can remember. But I can not describe the happiness and the comfort it gives me. It feels like everything stops once I get into those pointe shoes, step in that class, and hear the music play. I was 3 years old when I started, I only had two years that I did not specifically focus on ballet. I was dancing as a professional dancer. The reason I quit being a dancer was, it took 10 hours per weekend and I wanted to make time for new hobbies as well. Which brings ut to volleyball. After I decided to quit dancing I went back to ballet and started looking for a new hobby. Which is volleyball. I have been playing for almost 5 years now. I played as a hitter when I first started. After our setter had an injury I became a setter for a while, then I had a knew injury which limited my jumping, my coach decided to put me down for the position of libero. Today I am playing as a libero in my team. Surprisingly the major I want to study does not have anything to do with my interests. I want to be an interior architect. I want to study in Italy where I can continue doing ballet as it is one of the most artistic countries in the world.

About my family, I am living with my mom, dad, older brother, and my dog.

I love to spend time with them. We usually watch movies, go out for dinner, go to the lake with our dog and have a little picnic with them or cook together. My parents are both from parts of Turkey where the food is really rich. So we often have traditional dishes nights.

More and beyond I love to do research. Ever since I was little I have been very curious about everything. To be honest I am not exactly a person who likes to read books, but in the past couple months my habit of reading has changed. In my opinion, being in the MUN club of my school, taking part in multiple international conferences and meeting people overseas has made me a more curious and conscious person than I already am. Moreover, one thing I love about meeting new people from other countires is their culture in general. Like, their cuisine, language, holidays, beliefs, and more. In 2023 I went to a summer camp in London where I met hundreds of new people, all from different countires. I got to know their culture and that is what I love the most. But somehow from all of the culture I had learned, the US has a different effect on me. I think it is because I grew up watching American tv. I remember when everybody was watching Turkish shows, I always chose American shows over them. Maybe it is the food that caught my interest or the lifestyle they show in the movies. But I cannot be more grateful that I can even have the chance to study abroad with a whole different culture. I am looking forward to all the knowledge I will gather from a whole another lifestyle. I am going to become more mature and conscious when I finally get the chance to live the life of an American teenager.
