LETTER FROM Haerin

Haerin

Dear my future host family,

My name is Haerin, and I’m thrilled to be staying with your family for a year. I look forward to making wonderful memories together!

I come from a family of four: my dad, mom, older sister, and me. During weekdays, we are all quite busy, but we enjoy having dinner together and playing board games or going to the movies on holidays. I love watching romance movies, and my sister prefers comedies, so we always watch romantic comedies together.

Our fridge is always stocked with fruit, thanks to my mom. We particularly love apples, peaches, blueberries, watermelon, green grapes, and mangoes. I’m curious to know your favorite fruits and hope we share some favorites. I’m excited to try fruits that aren’t available in Korea.

Every region has its traditional foods, and in my area, pork soup is a specialty. I’m eager to learn about the traditional foods in your state since I’m very interested in food.

My sister and I share a close bond, and I cherish our time together. While I’m in the United States, my sister will be starting college, and we’ve promised to do our best in our respective endeavors.

Our family has a tradition of going on a trip the day after a holiday, where we spend time with my grandmother to keep her company. Each year, we visit different places, and I love creating photo albums of our trip

I tend to be a bit reserved when meeting new people, but once I get to know them, my extroverted side comes out. I’m passionate and love trying new things. In elementary school, I even ran for and was elected as school president. I’m determined to be proactive during my time in the United States.

I enjoy drawing and coloring my favorite characters, which helps me reflect on my day. I also like playing badminton and improving my skiing skills in the winter. After a day of skiing, I love having ramyeon, a delicious Korean snack. Have you tried ramyeon? I recommend Chamkkaeramyeon, Neoguri, Jinramyeon, Anseongtangmyeon, and CarboBuldak.

Through this exchange program, I hope to enhance my language skills, make new friends, and learn about different cultures. I aim to broaden my worldview, gain confidence, and grow through this experience. I’m excited to meet you soon and will do my best to adapt to my new surroundings.
