LETTER FROM Daniela

Daniela

Dear future host family,

I hope that with this letter you can get to know me better. I’ll start by saying that going to the United States to study for an entire year has been a dream of mine for a long time. I hope to experience a new culture, meet new people, and make new friends, while having an amazing time, making it an unforgettable experience, and improving my English.

I want to sincerely thank you for welcoming me into your home. I understand that hosting a student for an entire year is a big responsibility, and I truly appreciate the opportunity. I am committed to helping around the house in any way I can, whether it’s assisting with chores or lending a hand with any tasks you might need. I believe in contributing to the family, and I look forward to being an active and supportive member of the household.

As for me, I would describe myself as a responsible, kind, polite, organized, and happy person. Although I can be a bit shy at first, I truly enjoy meeting new people and forming connections. I am a responsible and organized person, as shown by how I balance my basketball training, schoolwork, and extracurricular activities.

In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball at my high school’s club, which I have been practicing since I was 7 years old. I train three days a week. Basketball gives me camaraderie and teaches me because it is a team sport in which you play with more people toward a common goal; you cannot play alone. There, I have many friends with the same hobbies, who enjoy the same things and, of course, the same sport. I really like to go train because I have a lot of fun.

On Fridays, I attend a Catholic youth group called Zagales, where we have annual retreats and a summer camp. These experiences have helped me grow as a person and develop strong friendships. I also enjoy listening to music, reading books, and watching movies and TV series. Above all, I enjoy spending time with my friends. As for my musical taste, I like a variety of music, but my favorite singer is Myke Towers. He is very famous here in Spain, although he is from Puerto Rico. When it comes to movies, I especially enjoy those that deal with teenage romance and mysteries.

My family is the most important thing I have because they have always supported me and helped me in everything. I live with my parents, my little brother and my dog in a residential area of a neighborhood located in Madrid. My mother is an engineer and my father is an economist. Both my father, my mother and my brother are very hardworking and responsible in their work and studies. My brother is younger than me and is in sixth grade. To spend time as a family, we really like to watch movies together, sometimes at the cinema and other times at home. We also spend some fun afternoons playing board games.

My school is near my home, a ten-minute walk, and I have been going to that school since I was three years old, in nursery school. Many of my friends I have known since we were little. My favorite subjects are English, math, and physical education. I get along well with all my teachers and classmates, and I like to participate in class. I go to school from Monday to Friday, from eight in the morning to two-thirty in the afternoon. When I get home, I usually make lunch by myself because my parents are working. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I have basketball training from half-past six until eight. On the other days, I take advantage of the free afternoons to study and do homework at home.

I really like cooking. Many days my mother and I bake biscuits for my father, my brother and me. Other days, I make dinner with my father for the whole family. I like to learn new recipes, so I hope that when I’m there, we can swap recipes. My favourite food is my father’s croquettes and my grandmother’s soup, which she makes for me when I go to see her.

As for my future, I am still not very clear about what I want to study, but I know that I want something related to medicine because I enjoy helping people, and it is a profession that I like very much, but I know that it’s very difficult. I admire all doctors as they always do their best for us.

I am looking forward to meeting my American family and making it a great experience for them and for me. I’m looking forward to the day! Thank you very much for the opportunity.
