LETTER FROM Fenja

Fenja

Dear Host Family,

My name is Fenja, I am 16 years old, and I am in the 10th grade at a school. I live in a small, quiet village in Northern Germany. For a few years now, I have had the desire to do a year abroad, and the USA particularly fascinates me.

Sports play a big role in my life. I have been playing tennis for more than 3 years and started boxing about 9 months ago. Additionally, I played handball for 10 years in the club of my neighboring village, where I also play tennis. Both sports mean a lot to me. Tennis helps me with concentration, and boxing teaches me to stand up for myself and take on new challenges. I really hope that in the USA, I will have the opportunity to continue developing my sports skills and perhaps even become part of a school team.

In my free time, I also enjoy going to the city with my friends to shop, go to the cinema, or eat out. One of my favorite foods is Pizza, but I am always open to trying new dishes, especially vegetarian ones. I am trying to eat less meat.

I live with my parents and my siblings (17 and 12), in a single-family house. We also have a dog named Mika, who is 7 years old, and I am an animal lover. We have a very good relationship with each other, and I spend a lot of time with my family and friends. My mother works as a secretary at the elementary school in our village, while my father is an engineer in the aerospace industry. Both of my siblings attend the same school as I do.

At school, I am particularly interested in chemistry and physics. I am excited to experience the American school system and explore new subjects. I just had the chance to stay 6 weeks in Chile as an exchange student and improved my Spanish. This also made me even more eager to explore the world.

I consider myself a rather quiet person, but when I feel comfortable, I can be talkative and funny.

I am looking forward to making new friends, getting to know an American host family, and taking on more responsibility for myself.
