Dear Future Host Family,
I have always wanted to study in the USA since I was a little girl, so this would be like a dream come true for me. My name is Aurora, and I am 15 years old (and will be 16 in the USA). I live in Madrid with my father, my mother, my little sister, and my dog, Linda. I study at a high school near my house, and right now, I’m in 10th grade.
I have been playing volleyball for a year and a half, but I also like other sports, like skiing. I usually go on a ski trip every year with my family, and sometimes some friends join us.
I have lots of hobbies. I love traveling and seeing new places. I have traveled to European countries such as Greece, Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, and more. I also went to London last year on a school trip, where I had the opportunity to travel with my friends. I would be excited to see new places in the US too.
I enjoy cooking—my favorite food is pasta, and I know how to make it from scratch with just flour and eggs. I usually like all types of food, and I don’t have any allergies. I also like music; I can play a few songs on the piano, and I love listening to music of all kinds.
I find shopping enjoyable—I love visiting stores and finding something I would like to wear or buy as a present for someone. I also enjoy watching series and movies. I don’t really have a favorite one, but I do like a series called Gossip Girl.
Making plans is one of my favorite things to do, either with my family or with friends. I like making friends and spending time with them. I have new friends from my current school, but I also keep in touch with friends I met when I was younger. I love them so much.
Finally, I enjoy taking pictures—whether with my friends and family or of the places I visit.
My grades at school are great. I like studying things that I know will help me in the future. My favorite subject is economics, and I’m already pretty sure about what I want to study: business and company administration. My goal is to become a company manager. I usually help at home with cleaning and walking my dog.
I have heard a lot about programs that help students achieve their exchange year in the US. I have some friends who have already gone, and they loved the experience. I believe this is a great opportunity for me. I would love to get to know American culture, and I would also be happy to share my Spanish culture with you. I can’t wait to see a high school American football game or take part in celebrations.
I believe I won’t have any major difficulties feeling comfortable with my host family, although at first, I can be a little shy—but nothing significant. I consider myself a responsible and focused person, and I think I can adapt easily to new lifestyles. I adapted quickly to living sometimes with my mom and sometimes with my dad since they are divorced, but it was also easy for me because we all have a good relationship.
I hope that during my exchange year, I can meet lots of new people and visit new places. I can’t wait to go, and I am so happy that I am going to experience a year in the US.
Thank you for helping me achieve my American dream.
