LETTER FROM Charlotte

Charlotte

Dear Host Family,
First of all I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to live with you for a whole year and to become a part of your family and I‘m incredibly grateful for that. I hope you’re feeling good, and since I don‘t know you yet I’m going to introduce myself and give you an insight into my life.
My name is Charlotte and I will be turning 16 next year. I live in a small town with my parents and my two younger siblings. I also have an older brother who just recently moved out to study at university. I have 2 Guineapigs called Norbert and Cookie.
I have been going to athletics two times a week for one and a half hours for 7 years now and I sometimes go to competitions on the weekend. I’ve also started to go to lifeguarding once a week 4 years ago after going to competitive swimming for 4 years and then stopping because it was too much pressure for me. This year I started training 6-9 year olds in athletics once a week. Also, I am part of the school’s choir, lead the climate club at my school and have been taking piano lessons for 6 years now. In the rest of my time I like to read or go on walks with friends.
My dad started asking if I wanted to do an exchange year a few years ago. At that time I wasn’t a big fan of that idea and I also thought he wasn‘t really serious about it. But as I heard more and more about it I started to like the idea. I started informing myself and talking to my parents about it. They now are big fans and support me as best as they can.
About two years ago I visited the US with my family to do a road trip all the way from New York to LA. That’s when I decided that I wanted to do an exchange year. I know that a 4 week vacation is very different from actually living in the US but I‘d still say that that was the point at which I was sure that I wanted to do an exchange year.
I am really looking forward to going to a High school and all the things connected to it, as in Germany people don‘t really connect with their school and they only go there to study because they have to. From what I’ve heard the students in America really take the things connected to school, such as the football games, really seriously which I think is really cool. I am also really looking forward to making new friends and getting to know the culture first hand.
I hope you now have a good impression of me and I am excited to meet you!
Best,
Charlotte
