Dear future host family,
First, I want to thank you for thinking about choosing me as an exchange student and that you want me to be a part of your family for 10 months. I know that this is a big responsibility, and I really appreciate that. I don´t know anything about you yet, but I would be very excited to meet you. With this letter, I want to give you an insight into my life, who I am and why I want to go to the USA.
My name is Ella, but you can call me Ellie if you want to. Now I am 15 years, and I will be 16 during my stay in America. I live in a city in Bavaria, Germany with my mom and my dad, in a house with a small garden. My mother is a nurse at the hospital and my dad is an engineer working as a manager in an industrial company. I have an older sister who isn´t living with us, because she has already moved out, but I love spending time with her, and I am always very excited when I can visit her. She is living in another city with her boyfriend and their dog Kylie. I love to travel with my family, especially in warm territories. We visited Italy a few times and I always enjoyed the beach. We also play dice games sometimes or we watch movies together.
I am more introverted, but I am not very happy with that so I think a year abroad could help me to get more self-confidence. To describe my personality, I would say that I am more likely to be calm, but I can be very energetic too. I am a good listener and very cooperative. Mostly I am optimistic and adventurous. My friends say that I am funny and always ready to do something with them.
At school, I am in 10th grade this year and my favored subjects are PE and English. In my free time, I love to meet my friends, mostly we are in the city and go shopping, or sit in a café and talk. Sometimes we go to the cinema, the swimming pool or do other cool activities. We also like to make sleepovers, or we cook or bake something together. The Lord of the Rings trilogy are my favorite films, I love chill music and Stranger Things and Outer Bangs are the TV shows I like the most at the moment. My favorite books are the Hunger Games. As a hobby I do cheerleading in a level 2 competitive team, in February we will go to a regional competition of south Germany. Last year I did a ballroom dance class with my friends, and I still do it sometimes. I also love horses and horseback riding, especially western style, but unfortunately, I can only do it in the holidays, because there isn’t a good stable in our region. I like to do activities in the city, but I also love to explore nature and do outdoor activities.
I want to do an exchange year, because I want to meet new people, experience other cultures and see other countries. I also believe that a year abroad is a life-changing event that will shape you throughout your life. In my opinion it would be great to get to know a different school system. I think the USA is a very diverse country, because it has so many different regions, cultures, landscapes and people. Another reason why I chose the USA is the typical high school spirit I saw in many movies, and I want to know if it is really like that. Mostly, I am looking forward to seeing a completely new part of our world. I hope that I can improve my English skills, find new friends and have a second family.
I hope you were able to get a good overview of me.
