LETTER FROM Emma

Emma

Dear Future Host Family

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and for giving me the opportunity to live and study in the United States. Without you, this opportunity wouldn’t be possible.

My name is Emma, I’m fifteen years old and I’m from Spain. I live in the city with my family, they are an essential pillar in my life and without them I would never have become what I am today. We are a traditional family, a loving family of four. There is my mom, my dad, my sister Jimena, two years younger than me, with whom I am very close, and myself. I am also very lucky to have my four grandparents, and together with my aunts, uncles and cousins we spend a lot of time together.

I would describe myself as kind, fun, caring, responsible and positive because I always try to see the best in things and people. I’m also quite self-demanding because I like to always give my best, and sometimes I’m a little insecure because I want to choose the best option for myself and for the people I love. I’m very curious and I love to learn new things about everything and that’s one of the reasons why I want to live this experience. Also, I’ve always dreamed of being part of an American family and enjoying their traditions.

I really enjoy reading, doing some sports like hiking, and spending time with my friends. They are very important to me, as well as my family, and I always try to be there when they need me. But what I enjoy the most is music. I’ve been studying music at a conservatory since I was 7 years old, and I’ve loved it ever since. I play the violin and the piano, and I also sing in the conservatory choir. We do a lot of charity activities, like concerts or even trips. However, even though I love music, it takes a lot of time and effort to combine the conservatory with my academic studies, so every year is a new challenge that I’m able to overcome thanks to my dedication and hard work. I also love to travel and getting to know other parts of the world. My family and I love to travel and we do so whenever we can. But my favorite place will always be my village, where I spend my summers and some other holidays.

From this experience I hope to learn a lot, meet many people, make friends that will last a lifetime, grow as a person, and although I will miss my family a lot, I hope to find a second family forever in another part of the world, that supports me and helps me through any difficulties. I think it is going to be an experience that I will carry in my heart forever.

I’m very grateful for this opportunity, because this dream is only possible thanks to you, a family that barely knowing me, is opening the doors of their home and allowing me to be a member of their family. I’m really excited to meet you, to share experiences with you, to learn, to help and, if you allow me, to show you some of my traditions.

See you soon, a big hug.
