Hi dear host family,

I’m Emma, I’m 14 years old. I live in Manresa, a city near Barcelona. I have a 16 year old brother named Àlex, he studies in the same high school as me. My parents are Monica and Jairo.

My mother Mònica is a pediatric nurse, my father Jario is an architect and has his own construction companies.

We really enjoy spending time together, as we can talk about everything. We also do a lot of activities as a family: playing board games is something we like a lot on weekend days and holidays when we are at home, we also like cooking different dishes, my father and my brother make the main course and my mother and I make the appetizers and dessert. Some days we go on outdoor excursions, and other days we go to eat in different types of restaurants to get to know different cultures through their gastronomy.

There are weekends when I or my older brother have competition, me swimming and my older brother water polo. The whole family comes to watch and support us, some competitions our grandmothers come to watch us.

I consider myself a cheerful person, outgoing, friendly, fun, kind, sincere and confident. I think I have a very honest personality, as my friends tell me. My weak point is that I don’t like to lose because I’m competitive.

I have different hobbies and interests. Something I like to do is listen to music, especially urban Latin music, but I also listen to other genres because my father exposes me to them. With my family we have gone to some concerts like the Alicia Keys concert that I really liked. Besides, I also like music, a few years ago I played the piano.

Movies and series are a way I use to disconnect, comedy and romantic movies I like to watch with my mother, and with my parents and my brother Marvel movies, my favorite series is Gossip Girl. Traveling is something I love to do with my family and friends, someday I would like to travel to Italy and Greece. Hanging out with my friends is something I love to do whether it’s going for a walk, going to the movies or just talking. Shopping is an activity I enjoy very much.

When I was little I danced hip-hop in a dance school and I enjoyed it a lot and nowadays I still enjoy it, although I don’t compete. Finally my favorite hobby is swimming since I was very young and since those days it has become indispensable for me, but this does not mean that I do not like other sports, on the contrary, when I was younger I did more sports like basketball, soccer, hip-hop and chess.

From this experience I hope to get different things out of it. The most obvious thing is to have a good level of English, but I think it is not the most important thing. Another thing I hope to do is to make a lot of friends. And finally to know the traditions and customs of the USA.

In conclusion I hope to have a host family that will take care of me and love me like my own.
