I have the best host family anyone could ever imagine

Exactly 6 months ago, I came to the US to start my exchange year. I was so excited that I thought I wouldn’t be homesick or miss anything at all in Germany. And when I was at the airport with my family, that made me realize that I’m going to be gone for a whole year. And to be honest, I wasn’t excited anymore.

In the beginning it was pretty hard to deal with the language and with my homesickness and I always thought “why am I doing this?” I have such a good life in Germany, why would I give that up for a year? But when school started I became more and more excited because I would meet new people, go to the football games and do all the fun things. But it wasn’t always easy. There were up and downs.

But I have the best host family anyone could ever imagine. So I would say it was or it is absolutely worth it. And I am super excited for my last 4 months that I am going to spend here. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to come here.”
