LETTER FROM Irene

Irene

Dear family,

My name is Irene and I live in Spain with my family and pets. My mom Ester and my dad Pablo have been supporting me during the process of this scholarship. They always help me through difficult times and I can always count on them. At home we have a lot of communication and we always take care of each other when we have a problem. Me and my little sister have a special connection, we’re made for each other and I love her more than anything. She’s the most important person in my life. She always makes me laugh, even when I’m not in the mood. She loves animals as much as I do and she’s cazy for our cat Lia, we all are. Lia is very funny and cute and we take very good care of her. Our turtle named Morla does not require a lot of care, we only feed and wash it, Morla spends a lot of time hibernating. We wish we could have a dog, but by now we don’t have time enough to take care of it properly.

Now I’ll talk a bit about me. I consider myself a very hard-working person and very optimistic, when I have a goal, I’m very persistent. I’m also pretty adventurous and curious. I think my main weaknesses are my impatience, but I think that’s because I’m curious like I said before, and my self-demand, which sometimes can also be a strength. About my strengths, I would say one of them is my passion; I’m very passionate with the things that I like and I enjoy them a lot, I really enjoy life in general. I would also like to stand out my memory, a lot of people tell me that I have an excellent memory, which I agree with.

About my interests, the main one is travelling, it’s my favourite hobbie in the world. I also like watersports a lot, music and singing. I’ve been a musician since I was 7 years old, and it is a very important part of my life. I also enjoy a lot boardgames and some videogames too. I like all the festivities, and I want to know how you celebrate them there, both those we share and those that are typical in the United States. And of course my favourite food is hamburguer, it has always been. I think you should know a couple of things more about me: I’m myopic. I have six diotries in each eye and I wear special eye contacts. I’m also celiac, that mainly means I cannot eat wheat, rye, oats and barley; but that has never been a barrier to me, I can adapt myself quickly.

I would like to live a year in the United States for many reasons: the main one is because I love the language, I’ve always been very comfortable speaking English, even though I’ve never been to an academy before; but that’s because we decided that I should study a fourth language, German, since I already learn English at high school and school. I hope that this experience allows me to improve my English, meet a lot of people and make new friends. I would also like to do this because I could be more independent, learn about the American culture and for the fact of travelling. All these facts make this experience worth it, even though I know I’m going to miss my family and friends from Spain. I actually don’t have any host family preferences, I think I’ll be fine wherever I am.

Thank you very much for your time. Regards from Spain:

Irene
