Dear future host family,

I am very glad that you consider to be my host family, and I am really thankful for this chance!

Firstly, I should introduce myself. I am Lia from Germany. I am 15 years old and an only child. I live in a house with my mom and my dad, and I go to secondary school every day. I like to spend my time with friends and family, or I enjoy doing sports. I would say I am a sporty person, but unfortunately, I don’t have enough time to try every kind of sport. Nevertheless, I play basketball and do fencing weekly in a fencing club. I enjoy fencing not only because of the sport but also because of the persons. While fencing, I meet my friends, with whom I always laugh and have the best time of the week. I really love swimming and I would say swimming is my favorite sport and the best in the whole world. When I was born my mum took me for baby swimming and from then on I keep swimming. I went 4 years to swimming class, gained the swimming badges for the ages 5 till 9 and my teacher always said to stay on the water surface, but I always liked to dive too. Since swimming class and also, before we always go on vacation where we have a pool or the ocean. So you would find me either in the pool or in the ocean from sunrise till sunset. Last year I made an Apnoe course and started to use fins, what I enjoy very much. In my spare time, I like meeting with friends, go shopping or go to the cinema and I really like to read books or watch a movie while eating something I baked at home.

For me my family is very important, I love to do things with them together and to share new experiences with my Mum and my Dad. They are also the best listeners in the world and I
can talk about everything with them.

Maybe you will ask yourself why I want to become an exchange student and why exactly in the USA. To start with, I like to travel the world and learn things about other cultures and
where can you learn more about another culture than during an exchange year? The reason why I want to go to the USA is really simple: I love the American way of life and your school life, and I would like to find out how it is to go to a US-High school myself. Because I think the school system is very different from the German one, I would love to gain that school
experience. I am also very interested in your daily life. Maybe your weekdays are quite similar to mine or totally different, I would be happy to find out! All in all I want to get to know
your culture, like your typical food or what you like to do on weekends. And if you want, I can show you some German culture. Besides that, I want to become the best version of myself in
speaking English. I think my English is quite good, but a year in the USA will help me to
become way more confident when speaking English.

I am really thankful that you are considering the opportunity to take me as your exchange student in 2025/2026. I think we will have a great time!
