LETTER FROM Lisa

Lisa

Dear Host Family,

It’s an exciting thought to spend the upcoming year in the US and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you an idea of who I am. My name is Lisa and I’m from Germany, but my ethnicity is Chinese. I’m 15 years old and live with My mom and sister. I have three older siblings, and I’m the youngest child in my family. I love spending time with my siblings, Mother and my little nephew. Once a week we go out to eat or shop in the city. These moments are very special to me because my mom works alot, so we don’t always have the opportunity to go out together. My dad lives in another city, but we have a good relationship and see each other regularly. Every Holiday I’m visiting my dad.

Even though my parents are not always around, I’ve learned to be very independent. For example, I cook my own meals and take care of many things myself which has taught me responsibility. One of my weaknesses is that I can be lazy sometimes, but I think it’s normal for a kid I try to be less lazy especially because I have specific goals for my future now like studying architecture or engineering. I’m not 100% sure which I want to study of the two but I’m going in that kind of direction.

When I meet new people, I’m a bit introverted at first but once I feel comfortable, I can be very talkative and open. I hope that this exchange year will help me to overcome my shyness more quickly and allow me to become even more confident in meeting new people. In my free time I enjoy cooking and baking. If I don’t have homework or school projects I love experimenting with new recipes. I used to draw a lot but because of school I don’t have as much time for it anymore. I also used to play the piano, but I stopped after we moved. I still can play a little though. Another big interest of mine is skincare, makeup, and hairstyling. I also love spending time with my friends or generally people who are important to me. When it comes to food, I don’t really have a favorite dish, but I enjoy pasta, salads, and Chinese food. However, I prefer meals that aren’t too oily.

I’ve always dreamed of going to the US for an exchange year. I’m excited to experience the culture, meet new people and see what life in an American high school is like. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of the Highschool spirit, sports events like Football and hope I can take part in some of those activities. I also hope to grow personally during this year to become even more independent, open-minded, and confident. I’ve heard that Americans are very polite and welcoming so I’m looking forward to learning from this openness and bringing it into my own personality.

Thank you for considering hosting me in your family. I’m so excited to meet you and learn more about your lives and I hope to become a part of your family during this year.
