Dear Host Family,

My name is Luiz, I am 17 years old. I am Brazilian and I live in a town in São Paulo State and I have lived here since I was born. My parents are divorced and I live with my mother and grandmother as the town is small I can see my father almost everyday as well. Sometimes we have meal in the evening together or go to the gym.

About myself, I love to go to the gym, I usually go five times a week. Another hobby that I truly enjoy is playing sports, like volleyball, soccer and basketball. I play them every week and I really love it, and I feel amazing when I am on the court or field with friends. In the past I practiced Judo (martial arts) for two years and swimming for ten years, nowadays, I don’t swim, but I still like it.

I also like playing card games, such as “Truco” (a popular Brazilian game) and UNO, by the way I like chess and video games. This year, I started learning how to play the guitar by myself, So far, I can only play some songs entirely, including some from nirvana and Charlie Brown Jr, a famous Brazilian artist.

At school, my favorite subject is math, I love to solve problems and thinking about different ways to solve, that’s why I love math. I also enjoy chemistry too, the accounts, how the materials work and the processes behind them. I enjoy studying and learning new things, but also because I can see my friends, talk to my teachers, and experience the school environment.

I really like pets, especially cats and dogs, in my house I have one cat and two dogs, I love how the pets act with me, they always find a way to be nearby. My cat named “Isabela”, She loves to sleep on my bed, and she is very cute, she is orange and she has big eyes. About my dogs, one of them is “Astro” he is adorable and playful Maltês, and the other dog is a Mutt dog that we took from the street, she’s name is “Preta”.

This exchange experience in US is a fantastic opportunity for me, that’s why I wish to take the most of it, make friends, interact with homestay, study, experience the local culture as much as possible, information and people that I will bring with me for my entire life in the future.

I am really excited about this experience! I can’t wait to learn more about your culture, meet new people, improve my English, and share a little bit of my own culture with you. I would love to show you how to make some Brazilian food, introduce you to our music and dances, and tell you more about Brazil if you are interested, I hope we have an amazing time together.
