Dear host family,
To start I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to make one of my biggest dreams come true: the year abroad in the United States!
My family it’s made up of three people (me, mum and dad) and a cat. I have a very close bond with them and every teaching is constructive: as a family we have a lot of fun and if something isn’t right we talk about it. I really have to thank them for all the experiences they give me the chance to have.
We live in a warm seaside town in Northern Italy, sea is my favorite thing because, even in winter, it gives me a sense of tranquility and calm.
I’m not a very extravagant person: I don’t like to stand out and often, with new people, I can seem a little shy. However, this changes quickly as soon as I gain a little confidence: I am in fact a friendly girl, always smiling and I always look for the positive aspect of what surrounds me. I have practiced dance for many years and, even if now I only go to the gym, it will always remain a part of me. Furthermore, I love spending my free time having fun with friends, I love learning new things, fashion and travelling.
I eat all types of food but I prefer the healthiest ones: I really like vegetables, fish and pasta. I like meat less and I don’t like cheese.
What will never tire me is travelling: thanks to my parents I had the opportunity to visit many places and I think that discovering new cultures is among my greatest passions.
In the family we don’t have particular traditions but we celebrate holidays and birthdays. The Christmas period is definitely my favorite and I find Christmas Day even more magical, the day in which the other members of the family also get together.
I have dreamed of doing a year abroad since middle school (for 6 years now) because I believe it is a unique experience and a great opportunity for growth. During these months in the US, I am fascinated by the idea of being able to test my English, in order to improve it. Furthermore, I am very happy at the idea of being able to get to know a new way of life, different from the Italian one, and I think it could be a wonderful opportunity for me and also for you (my future family) to be able to learn each other’s culture.
Thanks again for reading my letter! I really hope you can find in me the idea you had for your exchange student!
