Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Mirthe, and I am 16 years old. I live with my father, my mother, my sister (19), and my brother (18). Although we all lead busy lives, our family is very close. It’s rare for all five of us to have dinner together, but when it does happen, we cherish those moments. We also enjoy spending time together on family outings, as these are some of the few times we can truly connect and create memories as a family.

I would describe myself as outgoing and lively. When I get to know someone well, I can be very talkative and full of energy. I am open with my emotions, and those around me often say I am kind and attentive to others. I tend to put the people I care about first, sometimes even before myself. One of the reasons I want to spend a year in America is to focus on my own growth and experience life from a fresh perspective.

Sports play a significant role in my life. I am passionate about soccer and athletics, but I also value spending time with family and friends. I enjoy hanging out with my close group of friends—whether it’s shopping, going to parties, or relaxing at home watching movies. Cooking is another hobby of mine, especially preparing Italian dishes, which happen to be my favorite cuisine.

Traveling is another passion I cherish. Last year, for example, my family and I visited Indonesia, which was an unforgettable experience. I love making the most out of every moment while on vacation. Although we don’t have many family traditions, one annual highlight is our family weekend with my father’s side of the family. We rent a big house and spend a fun and cozy weekend together.

This exchange year in America is a dream come true for me. I see it as an incredible opportunity to grow personally, make lifelong memories, and build new friendships. I am aware that challenges will arise, but I look forward to facing them and learning from them. I am eager to embrace this journey with an open mind and heart and cannot wait to meet you and be part of your family!
