LETTER FROM Po Hei (Michelle)

Po Hei (Michelle)

Hi, my name is Michelle. I am currently 15 and studying in Hong Kong.

I have various hobbies, like swimming, playing badminton, making art, all of which I have done since I was a young kid. I see myself as a rational and logical person, I don’t ever let my emotions control me, and I’m good at remaining calm. I’d say I’m also a very driven and ambitious person, I always work hard to achieve my goals and strive to improve and advance in the fields I am interested in. My biggest strength is leadership. As I tend to be rational and logical, I always go for the most efficient way to sort out and finish any projects or issues. I will always hear out my teammates and group mates’ opinions or ideas and be open-minded. I can handle constructive criticism well, and take it as feedback on areas which I can improve in. I have won some awards over the years in and outside of school. I have achieved some high results in art competitions, and I have won awards for academic achievements, mostly for English.

My family consists of me and my parents. My dad was a former CEO of a real estate company and is currently retired. My mom is a housewife. Even though my dad had a demanding job, he always made sure I was well taken care of, physically and emotionally. He’s always been very present in every step of my life and always guiding me through it. Same can be said for my mom, she has always taken good care of me, and makes sure to spend quality time with me, along with my dad. We enjoy travelling with one another and experiencing different cultures. My mom and I frequently go out together to do activities like shopping, watching movies and more, while my dad and I like to swim and play badminton together

The reason I want to join this high school exchange program is because I want to broaden my horizons and further pursue my studies and interests. I can imagine life in America is very different from Hong Kong, and I’ve never been one to put myself in a box. I’ve always desired to see the world outside of where I was born, and it’s one of my dreams to study and live abroad. I have also always excelled in English, and I think that once I’m in America, I can fully take advantage of my strengths and achieve further academic success.

From research and hearing about different experiences, I also find that education in America has more emphasis on personal interests, and that’s something I value very much. I can’t see myself having a career where I can’t express my artistic interests. I hope in America, I can make time for and advance in both academics and personal interests and really change the future and course of my life. Furthermore, being able to live with a local host family for a year also really excites me, as I will be able to learn more about another culture and gain more understanding of the way of life in America.

I strongly believe that we will get along very well. Thank you!
