LETTER FROM Sakda (Kevin)

Sakda (Kevin)

Dear host family,

Greeting from Thailand!

First, I would like to say thank you so much for taking time to read my letter. My name is Kevin. I am 17 years old. I’m currently studying in the Science-Math program. Alongside my academic pursuits, I am also an active student council member. I develop leadership skills and collaborate with my peers to organize events and initiatives for my school community. My family comprises five members: my grandmother, father, mother, older sister, and me. My parents work hard every day, from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., so we don’t have much time to spend together. However, we enjoy spending quality time together, especially during festivals. We gather with our relatives to share meaningful moments, such as enjoying meals and talking about our lives.

I am a friendly, smiley, and cheerful person who balances introverted and extroverted qualities. I love talking and socializing but can sometimes feel shy in new situations. I enjoy trying new activities and am open to exploring different cultures and perspectives. I am a planner who looks ahead and believes in taking action to achieve my goals. One of my strengths is my commitment—I always give my all when I start something. However, I also tend to overthink and worry about small things.

Daily, I balance school, gym sessions, and dedicated study time for the SAT and IELTS with moments of relaxation spent scrolling through TikTok. I am passionate about self-improvement, whether through building muscle at the gym, learning new languages, including German, or practicing self-reflection to understand myself better and grow as a person. This focus on growth extends to my appreciation for beautiful room or desk decor, architecture, and modern designs. I enjoy healthy food and Thai cuisine, and my favorite holidays, such as Songkran, Christmas, and New Year, bring joy and celebration. Since I rarely travel, I value any chance to explore and plan to visit as many new places as possible in the USA.

I am especially eager to start playing tennis. This sport intrigues me, and I plan to pursue it alongside exploring other activities like snowboarding, skiing, surfing, jet skiing, and sailing. I love outdoor adventures like road trips, forest walks, and seaside escapes. When I was 9 years old, I tried skateboarding for the first time. Since then, I have dreamed of skateboarding down a hill, which has become one of the reasons I have really wanted to go to the USA. Watching YouTube videos of Americans embracing this thrill inspired me to pursue this adventure. Traveling and broadening my horizons excite me, as does immersing myself in music—from listening to music festivals to enjoying lively nights. I especially love house music, such as Afro House, Summer Vibes, and every type of house music. I also love Aviici’s Electro House music (EDM). My favorite DJs are Rammor(Summer VIbes) and Settow(Afro House).

During the COVID-19 quarantine in 2019-2020, I watched TikTok and discovered American teenagers’ unique culture and lifestyle. Their daily routines, school experiences, and cultural activities fascinated me and inspired me to explore this way of life firsthand. This curiosity and inspiration led me to join this program to challenge myself and improve my English skills. Immersing myself in a new culture and practicing English daily will help me grow and prepare for my future academic goals. In the future, I plan to pursue higher education in Thailand to earn a scholarship to study Business Administration (BBA) at a top Thai university. Beyond my undergraduate studies, I aspire to earn an MBA with a scholarship and to further enhance my global perspective by pursuing a master’s degree through the Erasmus Mundus program. I am focusing on improving my academic performance and aiming for a competitive SAT score of 1550 to achieve these ambitions. While these goals are ambitious, I am motivated to put in the effort and dedication necessary to succeed.

Thank you for considering me as a part of your family. I am excited about this opportunity and look forward to building meaningful memories together and contributing positively to your home.
