Before you learn a little bit about me, I would like you to know that I’m very grateful that you took the time to read and consider this letter. It makes me feel special that you saw me and wanted to know more about my world, so again, thank you.
My name is Sofía and I was called like that because the other option was “Camino” and my father didn’t like it, so I was called like my grandmother. This is a fun history since it happened the same with my brother Miguel, who was supposed to be called “Pío”. As you can see, my mother likes strange names but she is a strong and loving woman; my father is calm and kind and both of them, give everything for their family, something I’m very proud of. Also, my older brother Miguel is the funniest person that I have ever known; he knows how to make me happy every time and I’m grateful for having him.
Nonetheless, I would describe myself as a kind, polite, curious, responsible, sensitive, helpful, and loving girl. Also, my strengths are the effort and dedication I put into everything, as the empathy and assertiveness I show towards others. However, no one is perfect, and I am no exception. I have weaknesses, such as wanting to have everything under control because it makes me feel more secure, and how difficult is to express my emotions. But, even if I am not perfect, I am working on these weaknesses and I have mostly overcome them. As proof of this, I would like to share with you a challenge that I faced months ago. In those days, I was being in a friend group where I couldn’t be myself. I feared being alone, which made me tolerate unhealthy behaviour. Eventually, I realized this was harmful. Initially, I spent time with another friend, but I decided to confront the group. I realized they weren’t true friends, and I moved on to a group where I felt comfortable and authentic. In addition, I believe I’m a good candidate because of my perspective on rough situations and my hope. I know this is a life-changing experience, and that not everyone can face the situation of being out of their comfort zone. However, I see this as an opportunity to learn about other cultures, grow in a new environment and form meaningful connections.
In contrast, let me show you more about myself. Since I’m a very active person I enjoy sports like triathlon, dance and weightlifting. I also enjoy reading, writing and cooking desserts — my favourite is tiramisu. As I’m curious, I like to investigate a lot of topics like politics, science, history, philosophy… but I also like to watch films and series, my favourite one: Gladiator. Yet, my expectations for this experience are… undefined. I don’t know what to expect or not, but I hope I can make a strong bond with the family and also adapt to the new environment easily. Regardless, I will make the most of this opportunity.
Finally, I hope that this letter shows my excitement for this amazing experience. Also, thank you again for your time and consideration.
