“Teenagers are fun! They get you moving, thinking, and learning in new ways …”
What more could a middle-aged, newlywed, childless couple ask for in an exchange student than our charming polyglot, Sophia, from Saarland, Germany?
Having spent the past several years living in France, Geoff and I returned to his adopted home of Pensacola, Florida, last June. Hosting presented us with the perfect opportunity to maintain our connection to Europe while sharing the excitement of our new life with someone thirsting to experience the unique culture of the South as well as the American lifestyle overall.
Teenagers are fun! They get you moving, thinking, and learning in new ways; they rekindle your sense of wonder; they keep you young and more importantly, current on technology, music, and what’s trending. Our motivation to expose Sophia to as much as possible has proved enlivening:
Hosting has inspired us to be more adventurous by taking advantage of opportunities that we may have otherwise passed up; it has bestowed upon us the gifts of priceless memories, laughter, and a bond of friendship that we will cherish for a lifetime.
