LETTER FROM Unai

Unai

Dear host family, I am a boy who is currently 14 years old. In my family, we are four people, my dad and mum and my sister who is 17 years old. We don´t have any pets but I like dogs very much and I hope we would have one pet in a future. Even though during the week we are a very busy family with no time to do activities together, on the weekends, we find different types of activities to do as a family like watching films in the cinema or going to my basketball games. I think we are a happy family who loves being and enjoy together.

I think of myself as a very kind, funny and a social person, willing to meet different people and make more friends. I am also very sporty and I enjoy playing nearly every sport even though my favourite one is basketball. On the other hand, sometimes I am disorganized when it has to do with homework because I don’t like school very much but when I have to do it, I sit down and don’t get up until I’m done with it. My favourite subjects are physics, physical education and math as I consider that I’m good at them. On the other hand, I find chemistry and biology more challenging.

I have been playing basketball for the past four years in a team and I love it. I play as a point guard. As well I like going with my bicycle and friends to mountains and after reaching the top, we go down as fast as we can to see who reaches the end first. I also like skiing a lot. My family and I used to go skiing a couple of years ago but now we don’t because my mum and sister don’t like it that much and my dad had a problem with his leg and he needs to rest and recover. My favourite food is spaghetti and ensaladilla which is typical in Spain. Once a year, we have a tradition called La Marcha Rosa in which people buy merchandising and walk around the town for 2 km. At the end, all the money is donated to help against cancer. My grandma is the director and responsible for organising this event, that’s why we go every year and participate as much as we can to help raise money. When talking about holidays, my favourite one is Christmas. During these holidays, we go to the north of Spain where lives one of my grandmas and all my cousins from my dad’s side of the family get together to celebrate and it is just a lot of fun. We have dinners, throw fireworks and spend Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve all together.

After this experience in America, I would like to come back home having a better English accent and vocabulary. As well, I would like to meet a lot of new people and learn how to be more independent. I would also like to show them how is my life in Spain with my family and friends if they want. Hopefully I would love to establish a great bond with my host family and be able to maintain contact and visit them again after my experience. I am going to try my best to have an incredible experience next year in America and make an effort to respect and adapt to my host family’s daily life.
