LETTER FROM Ya Jui

Ya Jui

Dear host family,

My name is Eric, I’m seventeen years old from Taiwan, and I have a family of four: mom, dad, older sister, and me. My parents often take us out in our free time. We like to do sports like running and mountain climbing together. Mountain climbing is my father’s favorite sport and I like it too. My mom is always kind and gentle. The delicacies Taiwanese snacks prepared by my mom are my favorite. My sister is a college student. She was an exchange student from 2021 to 2022.

Our family is very close-knit, sharing deep emotional connections. Every evening, we would have dinner together, sharing our day’s experiences. On weekends, we would go out for meals, watch movies, or have small family gatherings at home. For me, the companionship of my family is my most cherished treasure. When I want to do something, they all support me and share their thoughts. I am incredibly grateful for their unwavering support.

I enjoy reading, sports, and chatting with my family. My interest is exercise which keeps me fit while instilling discipline and patience. Swimming and Chinese kung fu are my hobbies. I go swimming five times a week. I can also play the piano and Horn.

In school, I am an active student. I actively engage with teachers, discuss with classmates, and help each other like brothers. I have a particular passion for running and swimming, not only enjoying watching but also actively participating in off-campus training and competitions. I have won some awards in swimming competitions, such as first place in 50m breaststroke, second place in 50m butterfly, and third place in 50m freestyle. I have also participated in inter-class relay races, contributing to my class’s efforts. These experiences have fueled my love for sports. Additionally, I served as the captain of the school’s jogging club, responsible for attendance and assisting teachers in correcting running techniques. This not only keeps me physically fit but also cultivates my leadership and teamwork skills.

My personality is optimistic, proactive, positive, and strong. I believe a positive attitude can influence the environment and inspire others to move forward. Every challenge is an opportunity for growth, and I am always eager to learn and improve, making each day fulfilling. I enjoy collaborating with others, especially excelling in teamwork, which enables me to achieve common goals. To manage time better, I make schedules to plan my life accordingly. I believe my parents have had a significant influence on me. They silently support me, and they also support my desire to be an exchange student in the United States, as I’ve been inspired by my sister’s experience studying abroad.

With a curiosity to explore the world, I aspire to visit the United States to learn about American culture and history. I want to meet more people, experience local culture, and learn more knowledge about the U.S. and the world by being an exchange student! More importantly, I hope to join school clubs during my exchange student program, learning and growing alongside local students. I want to foster mutual understanding and cultural exchange during my time in the U.S. Living in a new cultural environment, I will face numerous challenges such as adapting to new lifestyles and acquiring new life skills. This will push me to grow and cultivate confidence. As an exchange student, I will have the opportunity to establish relationships with people from different backgrounds and cultures. By forming international friendships, I will gain a broader understanding of the world. I believe this exchange will be an unforgettable experience, enriching my life and enhancing my understanding of the world.

I look forward to studying and exploring the United States and sharing this valuable experience with others. May this cross-border exchange be a significant milestone in my journey, enriching me with wisdom and growth! After the exchange program, I plan to pursue higher education, sharing the valuable experiences and insights gained in the US with others. I want to broaden my awareness of global diversity and promote opportunities for cultural exchange and mutual learning.

I am looking forward to spending quality time with you. I will integrate into your life with an open mind and a positive attitude, striving to become a part of your family. During our time together, I will gladly assist and look forward to chatting with you in our free time. I hope to participate in various activities with you and share Taiwanese culture. I am confident that my optimistic and proactive personality will bring joyous vibes to your family and offer you a unique life experience.

Once again, I sincerely thank you for your warm hospitality! I will do my best to learn and practice English. I look forward to meeting you and creating unforgettable memories together.

Best regards,

Eric
