LETTER FROM Yi Yun (Yvonne) from Taiwan

Yi Yun (Yvonne) from Taiwan

I grow up in a harmonious family, which includes my grandparents, parents, and my younger brother. My grandparents usually assist on household affairs. My parents are junior high school teachers, and my brother is currently attending junior high school. During the weekdays, the family often have dinner together, and on weekends, my parents arrange recreational activities or take my brother and me out to restaurants where we can enjoy a meal and chat about what happened at school during the week.

I have a lively personality and enjoy outdoor activities, chatting, and playing with close classmates and friends. I strive for perfection in my work and can complete assignments independently. My parents often say that I am stubborn and do not like to listen to others’ advice. Upon reflection, I indeed see this as an area that needs improvement; perhaps it is due to my pursuit of perfection.

In my leisure time at home, I enjoy listening to Western music on Apple Music. I appreciate artists and bands like Taylor Swift, Alan Walker, Ed Sheeran, and Bring Me the Horizon, which are among the music I frequently listen to. I also keep up with current Western pop music. After dinner on weekends, I sometimes open Netflix with my brother to choose a couple of movies to watch together, enjoying the precious weekend nights. In terms of exercise, I usually do some simple workouts with the fitness ring at home before taking a shower after school. Occasionally, I accompany my dad for outdoor jogging on weekends, and during the summer, I go swimming with my brother to cool off, although in the past two years, I’ve been undergoing treatment for chest corrections for a hernia, which limits my ability to engage in more intense workouts.

When talk about food, aside from raw food, fried food, and sugary drinks, I can accept most other types of food. My favorite desserts are 100% chocolate, tiramisu, and cashews. Occasionally on weekends, my parents take us to Starbucks for afternoon tea and chatting, enjoying the leisurely afternoon time. Our family gatherings mainly occur during the Lunar New Year when my three aunts and their families come over for meals, gatherings, and chatting. I enjoy the time spent with my family, as it provides an opportunity for us to share our feelings and makes me happy.

I want to build my confidence and improving my language skills, I think the exchange experience is the important opportunity for me to learn independence and pursue subjects that I enjoy. Until now, my family has been helping me manage my life, and I am very grateful for their selfless contributions. I think it’s time for me to learn how to take care of myself and learn to live independently so that I can also give back to my loved ones by taking care of them. I know there are still many areas where I need to improve, and I welcome any feedback for improvement. I would like to also thank the host family for their acceptance.
