LETTER FROM Yuki

Yuki

Dear Host Family,

Hello! My name is Yuki. I’m 15 years old and a 10th grade high school student. My family consists of my mother, father, and two older sisters. There is a big age gap between me and my sisters, so I often spend time with my mom. However, I sometimes enjoy shopping with one of my sisters. My family loves going out together, so we visit many places throughout the year. Last summer, we went to Awaji island and I still remember riding the ferry to see the beautiful scenery.

I really enjoy school life, thanks to my funny and kind friends! I’m a member of the English-Speaking Society (ESS) and Debate Club. I joined these clubs to have more opportunities to communicate and interact with many people from different countries. Debating in English is challenging but gives me a great sense of accomplishment. These activities also help me improve my English-speaking skills. In junior high school, I was on the basketball team, so basketball remains my favorite sport.

In my free time, I love taking pictures and going out with friends. Photography is special to me because it captures moments that make you feel nostalgic when you look back. I especially enjoy taking photos of beautiful skies, like sunsets, and funny moments with my friends. During my homestay, I want to take a lot of pictures and create lots of memories! I’m excited to explore new places with you and share my favorite activities! My favorite foods are baby castella and chocolate. I also love celebrating events like Christmas, Halloween, and school festivals.

Before big exams, I study for about 3-4 hours in a quiet library near the station. I focus on challenging subjects and work hard to memorize import points. I’m determined to improve in areas where I lack confidence.

My friends say I’m cheerful, honest, and always determined. I love making my friends laugh and enjoy bringing smiles to those around me. While I love English, I sometimes feel nervous about speaking and listening. That’s why I’m working hard to improve my English now.

This will be my first time traveling abroad and experiencing a homestay, so I’m very excited! During my homestay, I hope to gain confidence in speaking English and have smooth conversations with your family. Also, I look forward to discussing various topics, going shopping together, and even cooking Japanese food to share my culture with you. I’m very curious about the life in your town! Do you have any favorite hobbies or habits? I would love to participate in your local culture and events and learn as much as I can about your country. I hope this experience will also guide me find my future career path.

Thank you for opening your home to me! I promise to bring a positive and bright spirit, lots of curiosity, and Japanese sweets to share. Thank you for reading my letter, and I look forward to meeting you!
